Frequently asked questions

Plain-English answers on UK public cleaning tenders, our verdicts, and how the renewal radar works.

What is a cleaning contract tender?

A public body (council, school, academy trust, NHS trust, housing association) publishing a notice asking cleaning firms to bid to provide cleaning for a fixed period, usually 2–5 years.

Where are UK public cleaning contracts published?

Since 24 February 2025, new procurements under the Procurement Act 2023 are published on Find a Tender. Contracts Finder still carries older procurements. Scotland uses Public Contracts Scotland, Wales uses Sell2Wales and Northern Ireland uses eTendersNI. All are free to search.

Can I just use Find a Tender for free?

Yes, and you should know how. We save you the sifting and add a verdict and renewal warnings. See our guide on how to find cleaning contracts.

How do you decide Worth a look, Long shot or Skip?

Rules check location, value against your size, services, accreditations, turnover minimums and deadline. Then AI writes a one-line reason from the notice. It's guidance, not a guarantee.

Do you cover private sector contracts?

No. We only cover public contracts, because those are published openly. Private 'cleaning contracts for sale' listings are a different market.

How accurate is the renewal radar?

It uses the contract end date from published award notices. Some notices don't include an end date, and buyers can extend contracts, so treat dates as a guide.

Do I need CHAS or SafeContractor?

Many school and council tenders ask for them or something equivalent, but not all. We flag which notices mention them. See our guide to winning cleaning contracts.
